Pacific Coast Highway

The famous Pacific Coast Highway - a world class scenic touring route - begins in Manukau.  The route is easily followed by a distinctive emblem (see photograph at top of this page), and takes in some of the North Island of New Zealand’s most stunning coastal scenery.  You can take a closer look at the Pacific Coast Highway here, including maps, and detailed information.

The Manukau route of the Pacific Coast Highway follows the lush rural landscape and sparkling blue harbour coastline with its beautiful Auckland beaches, and is often framed by abundant Pohutukawa trees.

Known as “New Zealand Christmas Trees”, Pōhutukawa’s burst into vibrant red blossom during the summer months.

On your journey from Auckland along the route, be sure to include a stop-off in the Clevedon Valley where rustic ambience, quality-crafted goods and old-fashioned service provides a unique and leisurely shopping experience.

If you stay a while you can indulge in Clevedon’s  luxury historic retreats, farmstays or boutique vineyard accommodation.  There's golf, equestrian facilities, marinas, historic landmarks, stunning private gardens and more.

Back on the coastal road, the route follows on to the Seabird Coast - a bird watchers paradise.  During February and March you will see large flocks of Godwits & Knotts feeding on the incoming tides prior to their migration to the Arctic Circle.

Further on is the village of Kaiaua, then Miranda Hot Srings - natural thermal pools in a superb rural setting.
